ACEA response to the public consultation on the future of the automotive industry

As part of the European Commission’s Strategic Dialogue on the Future of the Automotive Industry, ACEA has responded to a public consultation on the sector’s most pressing challenges. Its recommendations outline critical policy measures to ensure a smooth and sustainable transition to zero-emission mobility while safeguarding Europe’s global competitiveness.
The European automotive industry stands at a pivotal crossroads. While fully committed to decarbonisation, light- and heavy-duty vehicle manufacturers face mounting competitive pressures that could undermine Europe’s automotive industry global leadership. ACEA is calling for a policy framework that balances climate ambitions with economic and industrial realities.
The consultation focuses on five key areas: innovation, clean transition and decarbonisation, competitiveness and resilience, trade relations, and regulatory streamlining. In its response, ACEA has put forward concrete policy recommendations, calling for predictable and streamlined regulatory environment, a market- and demand-driven approach, and policies that support high-quality jobs and skills, amog others.
